Customs Revises Tariff Values for Palm Oil, Gold, Silver and Other Goods Effective from 1st July 2026
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a notification amending Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.) dated 3rd August 2001 by substituting Table-1, Table-2 and Table-3 relating to tariff values notified under Section 14(2) of the Customs Act, 1962.
The revised tariff values will come into force from 1st July 2026 and apply to specified imported commodities including crude palm oil, refined palm oil, palmolein, crude soybean oil, brass scrap, gold, silver and areca nuts.
These tariff values are used for determining the assessable value for customs duty on notified goods and are revised periodically in line with prevailing international market prices.
What Has Changed?
CBIC has substituted the existing tariff value tables with revised tariff values for notified goods. The amendment primarily updates:
- Tariff values for various edible oils.
- Tariff value for brass scrap.
- Tariff values for gold and silver.
- Tariff value for areca nuts (no change).
The notification becomes effective 1st July 2026.

Why Are Tariff Values Revised?
Tariff values are notified by the Government to determine the customs assessable value for selected imported commodities where international prices fluctuate significantly.

Conclusion
With effect from 1st July 2026, CBIC has revised the tariff values applicable to several notified imported commodities under Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.). The revised values cover edible oils, brass scrap, gold and silver, while the tariff value for areca nuts remains unchanged. Importers, customs brokers and trade professionals should ensure that customs assessments for these notified goods are based on the updated tariff values from the effective date to maintain compliance with the Customs Act, 1962.
